Careers in Ornithology Workshop
Wednesday August 8th at 5:15pm to 7pm East Ballroom, Wyoming Union.

The 2007 AOU student affairs committee workshop aims to provide a
forum for career development for both graduate students and post-
doctorates seeking a career in ornithology, both within and outside
of academia. The two major goals of the workshop will be to: 1)
provide information about job opportunities; and 2) provide tips on
how to be a successful job candidate. The workshop will follow a
panel format with speakers from various fields, such as R1 academic
institutions, non-R1 academic institutions, NGOs, governmental
agencies, museums/zoos etc. In addition to speaker presentations, the
workshop will maximize time for discussion between speakers and the
audience. Discussion will include (but not be limited to):

     * What types of jobs are out there?
     * How often jobs become available in various fields?
     * Salaries, duties, and time management in various positions
     * What are job interviews like?
     * Interview skills
     * What to do now to increase your chances of being hired in the
future
     * Advantages and disadvantages of various careers
